I have a wonder so big that it cannot be contained.
My childhood in deep south Texas held more than the usual share of mystery.
Not knowing who or where I came from led to an awareness filtered through an impression of wonder. To this
day, this wonder permeates everything.
Pastoral landscapes, the human figure, birds, animals, benevolent snakes, moons
and stars: all are called forth to tell a story that commingles the physical and the spiritual, and where
creatures are touched by transcendence.
Expanding on a love for storytelling by way of photomontage, and for painting styles from centuries ago, my
focus is on melding luminous pigmented oils with my photographic work.
An inkling of a perception leads to an assemblage made from multiple images. In time,
the storytelling takes on a life of its own as if it knows what must be told.

The photomontage is printed on fine cotton canvas and adhered to a wood panel to be used as an underpainting. Layers of translucent and opaque oil passages are built up over time, giving a sense of dimension. Light and shadow are intensified to preserve the nature of the photographic print,
while pushing it into another realm.

My recent work is an exploration of light, shadow, shape, form and luminosity, by way of pigmented oils and photomontage. It has been written that claritas is the light that makes beauty seen. My quest for claritas and beauty is expressed through
benevolent creatures with a penchant for wonder.

Pigment prints are handmade on Hahnemuhle fiber based paper, and are signed, titled and numbered verso. Available editions and sizes are 8 at 12” x 12”, 4 at 20” x 20” and 2 at 30” x 30”. Pricing starts at $750.

Small gifts are diminutive works of art
that borrow fragments of photomontage from my larger artworks. The chosen fragments are printed on fine cotton canvas, painted with pigmented oils and adhered to cradled birch panels that are ready to hang alone or in a grouping.
